School Me On Farmall 350 Remote Settings

I want to give my 7ft Hesston 1110 sickle mower conditioner a try on the Farmall 350. The lift cylinder on the mower is plumbed to one side, lift and the
other side is vented - no return line. This is how it was set up when I bought it years ago and works well with another tractor.

So when I raise the mower as plugged into the Farmalls hydraulics, in one way setting, it will raise, but not lower.

When I set the remote for two way, the mower will raise and lower. When I put the lever all the way back, there is a detent that I am thinking is a float. I
say that because on some of my other tractors, when I push the remote levers all the way down (lowering) there is a detent and float is accomplished.
Is this also the case for the Farmall in two way setting? When I push the Farmall lever to lower to this down position, it makes the tractor work ever so
slightly, just the same as raising or raising or lowering the fast hitch. However, in this two way setting, when I reach the down detent, the tractor still
sounds like the hydraulics are still working. I do not want to mess anything up.

I have a manual and based on it, I see no mention of float on the two way setting.

What am I doing wrong - School me on hooking up my Hesston to the F350 such that it will raise, lower and float in that position.

Any sage advice is much appreciated.

Thanks!
Bill

There's an adjustment on top of the remotes behind the dash. Takes a 9/16 wrench to turn it from double to single acting. You'll have to look in your manual to figure out which valve is connected to your remote that you are using. The lines are run kind of catywampus between the remotes & the outlets. Think they were designed on a napkin by an engineer at the bar. Also think that should be covered in the manual. It was for my 400.

Yes - Ive got the manual and found those adjustment knobs (for lack of a better word) that use the 9/16 wrench. It is those adjustments I am referring to in my original post regarding one and two way hydraulics.

I should think one way is what I need, but two way setting is what both raises and lowers.

I will keep tinkering with it - this seems like a simple setting, but these Farmalls are new to me.

Thanks!

A lot of times a person read the setting on those backwards so good chance that is what your doing

When you say you pull the lever all the way back an you feel a detent does changing the one way-two way knob allow that detent position of the lever in one setting but not the other? In two way operation if the valves are working correctly you should be able to select raise on the lever and it should detent in the raised position until the cylinder reaches the end of stroke and then it should cancel to center. The same would be true for the down stroke. We had both a 300 and 350 on the farm when I was growing up. Of course we mostly used them in dual acting mode. It has been 45 years since I ran one using an old implement with single action and that was probably a mounted bar mower. If you have only one hose connected and it operates both ways you likely have it in the proper setting. If you have it set to dual action the lever would want to cancel but if you held it the pump would dead head opening the relief valve and labor the engine, but it should still lower.

It should work on BOTH settings.

The only difference, you're "dead-heading" the pressure on one side when lowering, which will cause the engine to strain and the relief valve to squeal.

There is no float on the 300-450 style hydraulic remotes.

Going to assume you have a fast hitch plumbed to rear outlets at battery box. For single acting with one hose to hydraulic cylinder the hose is attached the port at rear for side ports under fuel tank. May have pipes on one side or both. Provided no other blocks are attached to ports when control valve is set to single action implement will raise when handle is pushed forward and lower back through the same hose when handle is pulled back. Handle should stay back in single action when pulled and let implement float. Handle supposed to stay back until manually pushed forward. Check the index pin for bent or broke on valve. Should not load engine when moved fully in each direction unless lifting something and should stop loading when lifted.
